Get Food Assistance in the Des Moines Metro
We offer food to anyone who needs it – no questions asked. Find customized meals to fit
the size of your family and their specific dietary needs, fresh bread and produce when available, and a
wide selection of refrigerated and frozen foods to keep your family full.
Available food is dependent on the influx of donations but most days clients can expect to find
the following food items:
- Canned goods
- Fresh produce (Apples, bananas, potatoes, carrots, etc.)
- Non-perishable snacks (Peanut butter, chips, granola bars, etc.)
- Refrigerated food and frozen meals
- Gallons of milk
- Grains (Pasta, bread, rice, oatmeal)
What to Bring to Receive Food Assistance:
In order to receive assistance from the Urbandale Food Pantry we ask you provide a form of
identification for everyone in the family seeking assistance. For food that doesn’t require an ID, we
partner with local grocers like Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, Fresh Thyme, Target, Hy-Vee and Panera to
rescue fresh food that would be wasted otherwise. Bakery items, fruit and vegetables and fresh bread are
available daily for anyone who needs it. No ID required. A limited amount of USDA food is available
without an ID.
Don’t Go Without: Find Personal Care Items at the Pantry
At the Urbandale Food Pantry, we go beyond providing food to families in need. We offer basic hygiene
products to empower our clients to live a life with dignity and confidence. Everyone deserves to wake up
ready to tackle the day feeling clean and energized. Personal care items are highly sought after at the
Pantry.
You can expect to find the following personal care items:
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Toilet paper
- Paper towels
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Tampons
- Cleaning products
- Diapers
The Urbandale Food Pantry Hours
The Pantry will be open during the following hours and closed on specific

Note: When Urbandale Schools are closed due to
inclement weather, the Pantry will also be closed.
